This is crap. Around time stamp 19:58 he says that Coats and Samuel Clarke wrote a forward to Newton's book "Procipia". Newton didn't write a book called the Procipia. He wrote a book called "Principia" and Samuel Clark didn't write a forward to that or to any of Newton's other books. He tells us what Clarke's real agenda was, according this non-existent forward, but he doesn't give any actual quotes, probably because they don't exist.

I hadn't heard of this before today, but am watching for research. I am auditioning for a play on this, their story as told by their father. What an awful and largely and mostly preventable disaster. It doesn't surprise me that the club was not held responsible, not because the "rich" always get away with it, but rather our legal system was much more simple and primitive regarding liability. And government oversight was almost non existent. The lawyers of the rich members of the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club knew their business to protect their clients, whether or not it was right or moral as we in the late 20th and early 21st century know it is. Re-watching this in February 2024, having seen it many years ago and having read David McCullough's book, was that these prominent men of business never bothered to evaluate the whole focus of their investment: the lake and the dam. In the course of one day, during one storm, their little retreat was gone and had destroyed thousands of lives, tens of thousands of buildings, and the whole fabric of local society disrupted and destroyed for all who lived and died there. It amazes me that these clever people never investigated their purchase. Think of how little was needed to be done to properly maintain the property. In the fortunes of these families, it would have been a trifling to keep the spillway clear and even add an emergency spillway to replace the one that was lost prior to the purchase. They wouldn't have bought a mansion, an apartment building, or a factory without knowing its structural strengths and weaknesses.
